Whew! and a giveaway

I am just back from the doctor's office with my pathology results. I got the all clear! Thanks so much for your prayers and good wishes.

The other good news I received at the doctor's is that thanks to a successful exercise and healthier eating regime I have dropped my blood pressure significantly and lost 15 pounds since January!

To celebrate, I think it's time for a giveaway! Simply post a comment sharing your favorite health tip, be it a snack, exercise, or mental health activity like journal writing. I will randomly select a winner next week. The winner will receive one custom made polka dot pixie creation of their choice!

Thanks again everyone and many (((((hugs))))))

So glad to hear you are feeling better. I just adore your art. I think one healthy tip I like to give would be just to get out and walk 2-3 miles ever morning. When I start my day off this way it helps my whole day to go smoother. Since becoming pregnant I haven't been able to do this. I can't wait to pick it back up when I have the baby. Hope you have a wonderful week!

Yippee! My favorite tip is to take time to relax and have fun (maybe by taking a class from The Polka Dot Pixie ;-) I came right home Saturday and finished my bunny. He looks great. Thanks again for a great class.

That is wonderful news...CONGRATS! Favorite health tip huh? I always try and get a walk in every day..even if it is just a brief one. Clears my head and is good to get out.
Great job on the blood pressure and weight loss too - such a big difference in one's life!

So glad you got good news! The one thing I am trying hard to do is to not eat after 8pm. I know it makes a huge difference for me, but man that is when I like to cheat! Congrats on your progress so far, wish I could say the same!

I am so glad that everything is OK! It is SOOO scary when something might be "wrong".

Deep breathing several times a day is THE stress buster. At least 10 very full breaths held for a bit when totally full and 10 absolutely-empty-lung exhalations. Nothing better!

Kandes said...

Health tip #1 - Breathe.
Diphragmatic, or belly, breathing is when one breaths deep into the lungs by flexing the diaphragm. It will reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. :o)

COngratulations! My best tip (one I should follow more often) is to move! Walk, vacuum, clean, something to get you moving at least 30-60 minutes a day... and for my mental health, journaling and crafting! Becs

Congratulations on your good news! Lately, my favorite healthy snack is to chop up an apple, cover it with a bit of low-fat vanilla yogurt, sprinkle with cinnamon, and add some nuts (if we have some). It's very good! I think you could use any fruit that you like and it would taste good! :)

The Special K diet worked for me, the only thing about it is you have to stick to it, for it to work and uh...I fell off the wagon a time or two. I need to start it back up. I really want more pictures of me and the family at the beach this year other than head shots.
Special K for Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, and a Sensible Dinner. I always had one day a week where I would let loose. If not I would have hated it, but to loose about 30 lbs. in just a few months, definitely worth it.

Congratulations that is wonderful news. I just got back to being serious about my health and weight. I saw a horrible shot of my backside at a party and started crying hysterically. My tip is I park the car towards the back of the parking lot and walk. I used to wait for the closest spot. Good luck for continued success...Yay! Grace

Congratulations on the good news on the pathology results. Also the hardwork is paying off. My favorite tip is something awisewoman told me...Healthy people sleep when they are tired. Huh, whaddya think about that?

This is such great news and I am so happy for you. My health tip would be to eliminate as much stress as possible. Stress is a very bad thing and leads to many health problems. It effects not only our mental health but our physical health as well. Thanks so much for this celebration of good health...better health. Love your artwork.

Glad you've had some good news. My favourite healthy eating tip is a pastry less quiche. Three eggs, a tub of cottage cheese, chopped onions, then extras of choice. Could be ham, or Mediteranean veg, mushrooms? Mix together, pour into a flan dish and cook in the oven. Nice hot or cold and very simple to do.

woohoo keep up the good work

My tip is to get a pedometer and challenge yourself to do more steps each day even if it is just 5 or ten steps.

I’m so pleased for you that everything is ok.

I have also been on a health improvement kick of late and one of the best things I have found for loosing weight and increasing my vegetable intake up to the five a day quota is vegetable soup. Make whatever soup you like but with only vegetables and a little olive oil for fry onions, garlic or whatever. I mean don’t go sprucing it up with sour cream or piles of cheese, just plain old vegetables.

I make enough for the week and have it for lunch five days a week. I splurge with a sandwich on the weekend – wicked I know!

Geessssh I know how to have a good time ;P

Congratulations on the great weight loss !!! I went to that site and am joining for sure !! Also, so glad you got the all clear, that is wonderful news !!! My healthy eating tip is to only shop the outer aisles at the Grocery store. That is where dairy, meats, fruits and veggies are. The inner aisles contain all of the processed food that is bad for you :) Except I do a mad dash down the pasta aisle, for Brown rice :) Hugs :)

Yay! I'm So happy for you. What a relief!
Thanks for the fabulous Polka Dot Pixie class last Saturday. I'd love to own an original.
I try to exercise everyday and eat a little dark chocolate...isn't that supposed to me good for you? ;-)

What a relief Jenny! There's nothing like good news from the doctor :} Like your fellow bloggers, I too am a daily walker...rain or shine. So as to not be repetitive I'll give you a healthy and inexpensive beauty tip.

In a bowl mix a half cup of Greek yogurt, 2tsp. honey and half of a ripe banana. Paint mixture on your freshly washed face and let set for 20 minutes while you light a candle and practice slow, deep breathing. You will be glowing inside and out in just 20 minutes. Enjoy!

Congrats on the good news! Getting plenty of sleep is the best healthy tip I can think of. they say that is your body's time to heal. And I believe it. So glad you got the good news! Love your creations!

That's an incredible amount to lose in such a short time! Congratulations.

I'd say that you have already adapted to a healthier diet. My tip is to cook from "scratch" as much as you can and use fresh ingredients.

I have an illness that limits my physical activity but have learned that any effort that I can make is a helpful one ... even if I can only take a short walk.

Yoga ... it releases stress and keeps me flexible and going!

Jenny I had the mostest & bestest fun in your class Saturday. This was a very talented group of students you had....I felt so intimidated by a few of them BUT I got a lot of ideas from them too. I got home late last night from Phoenix. Today I unpacked my suitcase, tossed the dirty laundry down the chute and I went through all my awesome treasures I brought home. My very adorable bunny, that I actually created with your awesome tutoring, was very carefully carried by hand on the plane and made it home just fine. Tomorrow I plan on putting the finishing touches to him. My family was impressed that I made him.....so was I! Wow! How generous of you to offer us the opportunity to own one of your adorable creations....whoever wins will certainly feel honored and cherish the piece....I would for sure! Well, my health tip is lots of laughter and lots of hugs. I have a TV in my creative space and when I work I either have music going or the TV. I love old comedy sitcoms and movies. So I will put on a disc and listen while I create. Sometimes it can be hard trying to paint and laugh at the same time though so exercise caution! I mean who can't help but laugh and feel good when watching an episode of I Love Lucy or Gilligan's Island!.....Hugs!

Hello Jenny,

so glad you're okay! and congrats on the BP & lbs - it's not an easy thing to accomplish. the health tip that works best for me is to keep my hands in glue, glitter, paint, papier mache, or dirt. so that they can't put food in my mouth....

Yipppeeeee! My tip would be to eat whole, real foods as often as possible. And, when the weather doesn't cooperate, I use Leslie Sanstone 'Walk Away The Pounds' DVD/videos. They're awesome!

I think the best thing you can do it drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. I can tell when I don't drink enough I feel hazy and lazy. Water is great for your skin, mental health, and body in general!

Rebecca said...

Yeah! Don't you love that good news?? I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes late last year and have had to make significant changes in diet. I've learned that I find it easier to stick to my healthy meals when I have some favorite "go to" things that feel like a treat but are good for me in terms of carb consumption and calories. My favorite is Low Carb French Toast - I use a very low carb bread that only has 5 grams of carbs per piece. I dip them in egg beaters and serve them with cinnamon, sliced strawberries or peaches and sugar free map1e syrup. If I have 4 pieces of bread the total calories are around 220 and around 36 grams of carbs. :) Stay healthy!

Congratulations on the all clear from your doctor. Isn't it the hardest thing, waiting on the results? Give us your hints for improving the B/P and the weight loss---And thank you for suggesting sharing tips--lots of good ones here. Mine would be walking too. And the Water consumption, and the almonds, and....all great ideas. Thank you for offering a giveaway. And love the Humpty Dumpty!

At the doctors, no news is always good news~ Good for you !

Mn, a good mental exercise for stressful times is to stay mindful of what you are doing at all times. Letting the mind wander is never a good thing (unless you're trying to fall asleep). It especially helps when one is doing something boring, like washing the dishes, to pay attention to the texture of the dishes, the sounds, etc.

As far as health tips -- nothing relaxes me more than a cup of Russian Spiced Tea and a Criminal Minds Marathon.
