Off to Denver!

Just stopping in here very quickly to say a huge thank you you thank you for the kind comments. We had lots of fun on our anniversary and took lots of pics, all of which are lost (for the time being) due to the missing memory card from my camera. Using the old cord transfer method, I was able to capture a photo a wonderfully collaged letter I received from my sweet friend Little Melfie. It's perfect and hangs proudly in my studio.

Tomorrow morning I am getting my very scared of flying self onto a plane headed for a business trip to Denver. It's a short flight, but I will be nervous the whole time. Before scissors were banned on planes, I would take silk ribbon in my carry on and spend the journey making ribbon roses, or I would sew little doll clothes. Now I am regulated to the latest issues of whatever magazines I can grab at the airport bookshop.

In the meanwhile, above and below are pictures of a piece I just finished called "the Shepardess". She is accompanied by a little sheep I crafted from paper mache and real Cotswold wool. The doll was sculpted from paper clay, painted and then dipped in beeswax. Her clothes are painted muslin. She was finished about a year ago, but looked lost until I made the sheep for her.

I also recently finished another doll for Viv on a Whim's doll swap. I have the sweetest partner, and I look forward to posting pics of the other doll(s) I made for her just as soon as she she has them in hand. :-)

Before I sign off I want to thank my sweet blog friends who tagged me with awards this week. I promise to focus on those next post, in the meanwhile I have to think of who to tag next! Plus I think I am overdue for another giveaway, or tutorial, or both! Stay warm out there everyone.
I'll be back with musings from Denver!

February 13 1993

Wow! It's been 15 years! I can't believe it!

Today, hubby and I are taking the day off to celebrate our anniversary. We are leaving early this morning and will spend the day thrifting, antiquing, book store loafing and lunching in some of our favorite Arizona cities, Prescott and Jerome. To culminate our adventures, we will be dining in the very lovely A Cottage Place restaurant in downtown Flagstaff . I am taking lots of pics of these beautiful towns this time, maybe even one of us that isn't quite as old as these below (newest one in here is at least 4 years old!).....

Us back in the dating days! This was right before he graduated from the Marine Corps Boot Camp.

Right after we were in engaged...

Our wedding day! We got married in my Aunt's backyard. the judge standing to Rocky's left officiated. My drop waist flapper-style dress and my jewelry was from an antique shop. The vale was from a second hand wedding boutique . (You can imagine where my husband picked up his dress blues :-) ) I am a sucker for a man in uniform!!! Being only 19 and 21 years old on the day (and broke) we still managed to seat, feed and celebrate with almost a hundred wedding guests for around $1500 ! That's one thrifty wedding :-)

A few years later.. (after kids and dogs and mortgages!)
And finally our most recent pic (still a few years old) shown on the blog last year too in San Francisco...

I am excited to be able to have a little vacation in the middle of the week. Hope you all have a beautiful day too! :-)

Hi Fairy!

I think it was almost a year ago that I sent this little "Make Believe Fairy" in to Art Doll Quarterly, so it was a real treat when I heard from one of the editors that she would be in the Spring issue!

This is a first for me, and I feel so blessed! This magazine, another brilliant one from "Stamptington", is one of the most unique doll publications on the market. The Make Believe Fairy is honored to be included amongst so many beautiful dolls!

I hope everyone's week is off to a good start! I can't thank you enough for all the kind comments you left regarding my last batch of Easter Goodies. Here's a Vintage Valentine hug for you!
Check in tomorrow night by 7pm Pacific time. I'll be posting some goodies here with prices right before I put them in my web shop.

At last...

Feeling better, back from business and caught up on housework (well, not really)....

But this is way overdue.... Check out the adorable little handcrafted Easter box sent to me by the wonderful Mary of Snowflakes on Eyelashes. I was lucky enough to win this sweet little token of spring on Mary's blog found here.

Thanks everyone who wrote to wish me well. That was the worst cold I have had in a while. I am feeling so much better now and am off to explore all of your wonderful blogs!
